Coconut Tree
This is a large palm in Sri Lanka. It is nearly 30 mtrs. Tall and has empennatus leaves. Those leaves are nearly 15 – 20 ft long. People use Coconut for culinary & non culinary purposes. Coconut is one of the single plants which are use multi purposes. Sri Lanka is indeed fortunate that the coconut palm is indigenous to the island and forms a major tree crop covering the bulk of the planted coastal areas of the island. Coconut grows on sandy soils close to the sea. One coconut tree can produce up to 50 coconuts. Kalutara, Gampaha & Kurunegala is treated as coconut triangle in Sri Lanka.
Banana Tree
Banana is the naturally delicious fruit in Sri Lanka. Banana is a general favourite, served to general complete any meal. Bananas come in many sizes, and many colour such as green, yellow or even red. Some of the most popular varieties are Embul, Kolikuttu, Anamalu, Aeeni Kehel , Rath Kehel, Ambun, Puwalu, Alu Kehel etc…
Banana is the most widely consumed fruit in Sri Lanka, and is an attractive perennial fruit crop for small farmers. Not only as a fruit, bananas use as a vegetable, for decoration purposes.
Pineapple
Pineapple is a one of favorite fruit in Sri Lanka. Pineapple can be used as a fruit, a Juice, as well as a vegetable. Pineapple is an acanthus. Normally a Pineapple plant will flower after about 24 months & produce a fruit during the following six months. Some countries pineapple leaves are used as the source of a textile fiber.
